Co-Founder
My name is Desirae Currier and I am one of the Co-Founders of WINC Buffalo.
I’ve lived my entire life in Western New York. I grew up in Holland (about 40 miles south of Buffalo), and graduated from the State University of New York at Brockport with a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science.
My ambitions have always been along the line of teaching and sharing, helping others do better in their own lives (except for a short stretch of time where I decided that I wanted to work with rocks because, well, they can’t talk back). This led me to develop a networking community specific to women, all while embracing the life of a single working mother.
My career path has been long and winding. I have experience in healthcare, sales, financial planning, customer service, record keeping, payroll, and a few other areas. What I appreciate most about my path is all the knowledge I have been fortunate to learn and the skills I have acquired. The most valuable of which are the ability to understand people, build great relationships, and communicate effectively.
Helping others and giving to my community is a large part of my life. In my previous career I participated with the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce, not only as a member but as a Chamber Ambassador to ensure my fellow Chamber Members had a voice and were engaged in their memberships. I have volunteered through Junior Achievement, and was awarded a community grant in 2018 for a beautification project at the elementary school in my hometown. I enjoy advocating for the success of others in my community.
If you have big goals and even bigger ambitions, I’d love to get to know you and see how I can help.
Career Goals:
Spread WINC to other cities within the USA.
Hobbies:
Outdoor activities! Kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, bike riding, snowshoeing, social events in the sun & fresh air.
Favorite Thing About Buffalo:
Bills Mafia. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you are from, or who you know, when you put your Bills gear you have friends and family anywhere and everywhere you go.
Something Most People Don’t Know About You:
I homeschool my son.
Guilty Pleasure:
Chicken wings…but only in Western New York. When we travel and I cannot get edible chicken wings, it really bums me out!
“Building a place where women can be all the things, takes a lot of energy and commitment. It takes the right women to build it. This is my place, and these are my people.”
